How did this Happen?!?

Recently, construction began on the 2nd level of the Transition Home…which is actually the Second Home! It is so amazing to be up there and realize how far we have come. From up in this second home, now well underway, you can really see all that is going on at the Casa de Gracia site…and believe us, there’s a lot going on!

This all leads us to the big question…

How did this happen? How did we go from a 3 acre farm field full of coffee trees and sweet potatoes to all that is happening on this property today?

Psalm 77 says —

“I cry aloud to God,  aloud to God, and he will hear me.

In the day of my trouble I seek the Lord;

in the night my hand is stretched out without wearying;  my soul refuses to be comforted.

When I remember God, I moan; when I meditate, my spirit faints. “

Have you ever thought about the cries of kids growing up in a system of protection? In some parts of the world that means a foster care home but in many other places, like here in Guatemala, orphanages and refuges are still a real thing. And the children living inside these shelters are real and they are there for a lot of different reasons.

Removed from an abusive home.

Removed from a situation of negligence.

Rescued from trafficking.

Abandoned.

Loss of family in some kind of tragedy.

Or maybe they don’t even know. Their story is unknown to them. They only know they aren’t with family and the future is completely uncertain.

One thing they have in common is fear, frustration and uncertainty.

We don’t like to think about kids crying in the night, separated from family and scared. But it’s a reality.

But we also know that in those tears, multitudes of prayers have been made to God in heaven to see them and help them. And He does. He even assures us of this in the Bible, in passages like Psalm 77. He hears and He acts. We see all through scripture God’s heart for orphans, widows, sojourners and the most vulnerable in our communities.

So as we look around at all God is doing here and ask the question “How did all of this happen?”

We know very well that God has heard the cries of children and young people all over this country and in His great love, He is responding. From God’s heart He then placed this Dream in Edwin’s heart and from there, into ours and many many more who have joined into what God is doing to get us where we are today! Prayers, plans, provisions…God is using an army of people to answer these prayers! And to each one who has been a part of this, we say THANK YOU!
